From Nikon UK:
Today, Nikon introduces the smallest and lightest full-frame Z series prime lens yet: the NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8. This street-smart storyteller makes a superb everyday lens. Wide but not too wide, wonderfully affordable, and deceptively powerful, it’s ready for everything from street scenes to landscapes and situational portraits.
This bright 28 mm prime lens offers an expansive angle of view that’s just right for showing more of the scene, while the 0.19 m minimum focus distance puts this lens in the sweet spot for dramatic close-ups. The wide Z mount and rounded f/2.8 aperture combine to allow superb low-light performance, and image-makers can put their subject in focus against incredibly soft, natural-looking background bokeh.
The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 also makes it easy to shoot great-looking video footage. The 28 mm focal length is a cinematic classic, and with such a lightweight lens the user gets to choose whether to shoot handheld or with a gimbal.
Summary of primary key features: NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8
Bright f/2.8 wide-angle lens: 28 mm focal length captures wide-angle shots with rich colour and contrast.
Ultra-portable: the lens is approx. 43 mm long and weighs in at approx. 155 g. Easily small enough to keep on the camera or slip into a coat pocket.
Beautiful bokeh: the wide Z mount and fixed f/2.8 rounded 7-blade aperture enable incredibly soft, natural-looking bokeh.
Superb up close: a minimum focus distance of 0.19 m allows users to focus sharply at close range.
Fast, silent AF: powered by an ultra-quiet stepping motor and enhanced by the additional light gathered by the Z mount, focusing is fast, accurate – and silent.
Great for video: Focus breathing is dramatically reduced so focus can be adjusted without affecting the shot’s angle of view.
42 mm DX crop: offers a 42 mm angle of view when used with a DX-format Nikon Z camera.
Easy control: the silent control ring can be set to control focus, aperture, exposure compensation, or ISO.
Well protected: sealed for protection against dust and water droplets.

DxO has updated its popular photo editing software, PhotoLab 5, with enhanced tools, a more powerful PhotoLibrary and for the first time, Fujifilm cameras with the X-Trans sensor are supported.
It might only be in BETA but Fujifilm fans will be happy to hear that 18 Fujifilm cameras are now supported by PhotoLab 5 which includes the X-E4, X-S10, X-T4, and X100V. Plus, 605 DxO modules have been made available along with support for newer Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony and Panasonic cameras.
“We are very happy to finally open our doors to the community of Fujifilm photographers,” said Jean-Marc Alexia, VP Product Strategy. “Our goal is to offer them the best solution available in terms of image quality. To this end, we have created a website specifically dedicated to collecting their feedback. We can’t wait to hear what they think.”
Fujifilm photographers are welcome to submit their feedback and comments via the DxO website.
As for tool upgrades, DxO users now have access to Control Lines when using the retouching tools that harness DxO’s U Point technology. Previously, Control Points could be used to apply specific edits but now, with Control Lines, these adjustments can be applied to larger areas. Plus, Control Lines and Control Points are now equipped with sensitivity settings. RAW editing is now also up to 4X faster for MAC uses and 1.5X quicker for those using Windows.
In the PhotoLibrary, PhotoLab 5 now processes IPTC and EXIF data and a keyword tree has been introduced that orders keywords alphabetically and tells you how many images have a particular keyword applied to them. If you’ve used PhotoLab software previously, you’ll also notice that the tools in the PhotoLibrary have been reorganised so they’re easier to access.
DxO PhotoLab 5 (PC and Mac) is available now from the DxO online store at the following introductory prices until 14 November 2021:
DxO PhotoLab 5 ESSENTIAL Edition: £99.99 instead of £129
DxO PhotoLab 5 ELITE Edition: £149.99 instead of £199
The DxO PhotoLab 5 license does not require a subscription and can be installed either on two workstations (DxO PhotoLab 5 ESSENTIAL Edition) or three workstations (DxO PhotoLab 5 ELITE Edition).
DxO PhotoLab 3 and DxO PhotoLab 4 users can purchase an upgrade to DxO PhotoLab 5 by logging into their customer account. Users who have a version of the software older than DxO PhotoLab 3 are not eligible for an upgrade and will need to purchase a new license.
A full, one-month trial version of DxO PhotoLab 5 is available on the DxO website.
DxO PhotoLab now sets the standard for image quality. The software offers users the most powerful correction and processing solutions on the market, with automated features that can be turned off and adjusted as required. The software offers unparalleled optical corrections through its exclusive lens sharpness technology and many other tools, all of which are designed to inspire artistic expression without compromising on image quality.
U Point technology: New pointer – Control Lines – and improved sensitivity settings DxO is further advancing the most efficient and intuitive local retouching and adjustment technologies available by adding a second type of pointer: Control Lines. This new tool complements the technology’s existing Control Points by allowing users to carry out touch-ups on large areas with an easy-to-use selection method. To make them even more precise, Control Lines and Control Points are now equipped with sensitivity settings. Photographers can easily adjust the effect of their edits based on the luminance and chrominance of the targeted areas.
A PhotoLibrary packed with metadata and keyword management features
PhotoLab 5 now processes IPTC and EXIF data and third-party application synchronizations. It also includes advanced means of keyword prioritization via an interactive tree structure. In addition, this new version optimizes the software’s photo library management tools by reorganizing them.
DeepPRIME: more efficient and up to 4 times faster Trained by deep learning methods using millions of images analysed in DxO laboratories over the past 20 years, DxO DeepPRIME technology uses artificial intelligence to develop RAW files. It drastically improves digital noise reduction while ensuring more efficient demosaicing. Traditionally, these two operations have been carried out separately, each introducing flaws that adversely affect the quality of the other. With deep learning, DeepPRIME takes a holistic approach that combines the two steps into one.
The deep-learning approach of DxO PhotoLab 5 and DeepPRIME, in particular, has been significantly optimized in terms of reactivity as well as processing and export times. These improvements are available to everyone and are up to 4 times faster for Apple Silicon Mac users and 1.5 times faster on the best Windows architectures.
Support for Fujifilm X-Trans sensors (Beta) For the first time ever, DxO PhotoLab 5 now supports Fujifilm X-Trans sensor cameras. From the recent X-E4, X-S10, X-T4, and X100V through to the older X-E2 and X-70, no fewer than 18 Fujifilm cameras are now supported. In addition, 605 new DxO modules have been made available. Created through the exclusive DxO Labs calibration process, these modules automatically remove optical defects such as distortion, chromatic aberrations, vignetting, and lack of sharpness.
Support for even more equipment DxO PhotoLab 5 supports 26 new cameras: Canon EOS Ra, DJI Air 2S & Mini 2, Fujifilm X-E2, X-E2S, X-E3, X-E4, X-H1, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-S10, X-T1, X-T2, X-T20, X-T3, X-T30, X-T4, X100F, X100T, X100V, X70, Nikon Z fc, Olympus PEN E-P7, Panasonic GH5 II, Pentax K-3 III, Sony ZV-E10.

From Sony UK:
Sony announced the newest lens in their G Master lineup – the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II which delivers an extraordinary combination of resolution and bokeh as well as unequalled AF (autofocus) performance known to Sony’s G Master design.
“Listening to our customers around the world, we decided to develop a new, improved version of our 70-200mm F2.8: the G-Master FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II,” said Yann Salmon Legagneur, Director, Product Marketing, Sony Europe BV. “The improvements in weight and focusing speed with this new lens are immense and will make a huge difference for both photographers and videographers. When used in conjunction with our compact and lightweight full frame bodies, Sony is providing an ideally balanced and extremely portable combination.”
Designed to perfectly pair with Sony’s E-mount camera bodies, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II not only offers outstanding optical quality and advanced AF performance, but it is the lightest F2.8 70-200mm zoom in the world and allows for unprecedented shooting freedom and flexibility. Sony continues to strengthen the Alpha system with this newest addition to the broadest selection of mirrorless lenses on the market as the 65th lens in its E-mount lens lineup.
New Levels of Performance
The new FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II delivers outstanding image quality with high resolution and clarity. Users can expect a clean and clear image from corner-to-corner throughout the entire zoom range, even when the aperture is wide open. Thanks to the two aspherical lens elements, including one XA (extreme aspherical) element manufactured to 0.01-micron surface precision, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II effectively controls distance-related aberration variations to ensure outstanding resolution throughout the image area.
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II also employs two ED (extra-low dispersion) spherical glass elements and two Super ED spherical glass elements to significantly reduce chromatic aberration without colour bleeding. This lens also includes an ED aspherical element for the first time in an Alpha system lens, which simultaneously suppresses chromatic and spherical aberration, common issues in other telephoto lenses.
Smooth, beautiful bokeh is made possible by a large F2.8 maximum aperture and a newly developed 11-blade circular aperture unit. In addition, the lens’ advanced optical design including an XA element thoroughly suppresses the unwanted ‘onion ring’ effect, further enhancing the bokeh. The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II also offers excellent close-up performance with deep bokeh. The minimum focusing distance is just 15.7 inches (0.4 meters) at 70mm and 32.3 inches (0.82 meters) at 200mm, with a maximum magnification of 0.3x. Moreover, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II can be easily paired with Sony’s high-performance 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter to extend the lens’ focal length to 400mm at an F5.6 aperture, all while maintaining its G Master quality.
To avoid any unwanted flare and ghosting in challenging lighting conditions, Sony’s original Nano AR Coating II produces a uniform anti-reflection coating on the surface of the lens. In addition, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II’s optical design also effectively suppresses internal reflections to improve clarity.
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II’s state-of-the-art lens technology brings out the best in the advanced camera body it is paired with. The new lens uses four Sony-original XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors for extraordinary fast and precise AF, making it up to approximately 4 times faster and with focus tracking improved by 30% when compared to the previous model. When paired with Sony’s flagship Alpha 1, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is capable of high-speed continuous shooting at up to 30 fps. Superb AF tracking is also available even when using a teleconverter. For video, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II offers smooth and quiet AF to reliably lock in focus and track fast moving subjects, even while zooming so the user can leave the focusing to the camera.
Advanced Features for Video
With its constant F2.8 maximum aperture, astounding AF performance, versatile control, and solid reliability, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is a perfect choice for video. The new lens was designed to dramatically reduce focus breathing, focus shift, and axis shift when zooming so that there is minimal unwanted image movement and angle of view variations.
For easy video-use operation, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II features independent control rings for focus, zoom, and aperture (iris), allowing precise manual operation. The aperture ring also has a click ON/OFF switch. Additionally, Sony’s Linear Response MF ensures responsive, low-lag manual focus control. The supplied lens hood also features an opening that allows convenient operation of circular polarising filters or variable ND filters for more creative flexibility.
Designed for Professionals
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is the world’s lightest F2.8 telephoto zoom lens and is approximately 29% lighter than previous model, weighing just under 37 oz (1,045g). In addition to its lightweight, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II was designed for professionals to offer an ideal balance without front-heaviness, ensuring that the lens’ centre of gravity falls directly above the tripod mount. It also features internal zoom to keep the centre of gravity constant.
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II has been specifically designed for professionals based on their direct feedback. The new lens includes focus functions to support the user’s professional needs such as Full-time DMF, natural and linear manual focus response, and a focus-range limiter switch. The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II also includes three customizable focus hold buttons that are provided 90° apart for easy access and convenient control when shooting in horizontal or vertical orientation, and just about any angle.
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II features both a click ON/OFF switch and an iris lock switch for quick, flexible aperture control. The aperture ring click stops can be turned ON to provide tactile feedback when shooting stills, or OFF for smooth, silent aperture control when shooting movies. In addition, the zoom ring torque is optimised and now includes image stabilisation with MODE 3 for moving subjects.
The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is designed to be reliable in even the most challenging environments. It features dust and moisture resistance, equal to the FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS and FE 600mm F4 GM OSS, based on feedback from professionals. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

Nikon has announced that it’ll soon be offering a new virtual photography Nikon School experience called “Live Remote Shooting” that invites photography enthusiasts to learn photography and shoot with Nikon from the comfort of their home.
The organization provides courses that cover a wide range of photography aspects, from understanding a camera and lenses, shooting fashion, landscapes, wildlife, videos, and more. Now, it’s gearing up to expand its educational services to include “Live Remote Shooting,” as first reported by Digital Camera World.
Unlike a traditional workshop, attendees don’t have to travel to a particular location and instead are guided by a Nikon School’s professional trainer via a video call. During this call, the participants can follow the action from the trainer’s point of view, discuss and view the in-camera setup in real-time, and take part by changing camera settings without leaving their desks.
This type of virtual training enables photographers to explore various locations, shoot set-ups, and even different models of equipment — so as long as it is Nikon brand — without the commitment to travel or rent the gear.
Here’s how the Live Remote Shooting system will work: the Nikon School trainer first tethers their camera to a laptop and starts a live stream through a video-hosting platform which enables students to join in. The trainer also shares their screen so that the students can control the tethered camera connected to the laptop.
This allows students to guide the trainer to compose the image while having full manual control over camera settings. Once captured, the images are displayed on the screen. Students can also request particular lenses or cameras, including those that are not yet available in store. After the live shoot has concluded, all captured RAW images are sent to the students so they can post-process them as they wish.
As Nikon leans into virtual education and develops a wide range of online courses, it opens up possibilities for photographers who are not able to travel but still want to enjoy the benefits of interactive learning, led by an experienced trainer.
Here’s a short video introducing Live Remote Shooting workshops:
This new workshop type is set to feature in Nikon School’s event and training line-up starting in October 2021. Nikon School also offers in-person workshops as well as other types of online courses. More information can be found on Nikon School’s website.
LEE Filters is adding to its award-winning LEE100 filter system with the addition of a new LEE100 holder specifically developed for Nikon’s NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S ultra-wide zoom lens.
Physically larger than the standard LEE100 holder, this new filter holder is made from aluminium alloy and features a bespoke compression system for safe and secure placement on the lens barrel with optimised vignette performance. Visual “smart alignment” markings help the user correctly position the holder on the lens, and an integrated gasket and anti-reflective coating protect against light leaks.
The new holder uses the same interchangeable, modular guide blocks as the standard LEE100 system, and innovative quick-change filter frames enable photographers to continue using their existing LEE 100x100mm standard and 100x150mm grad filters. Integrated handling tabs on the filter frames allow for easy positioning without having to directly touch the filter surface, mitigating fingerprints and increasing the filter’s usable visible area. A physical stop on the filter frames optimizes the filter’s position relative to the lens, ensuring the filter’s edge won’t drop into the shot. For optimum wide-angle performance with the new holder, LEE Filters is also introducing a newly designed line of foamless 100mm Stoppers.
Availability: The new LEE100 filter holder for Nikon’s NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f2.8 S is available globally through LEE Filters’ dealer network and in the UK through select LEE Filters dealers and LEE Direct.
