Fujifilm has updated its line-up of instant printing devices with a printer that will produce large format instant prints and is designed to sit alongside the Instax Mini Link smartphone printer introduced in 2019.
Link Wide creates instant prints from the photo roll on a smartphone via the Instax Link Wide App which can be downloaded for free. Plus, it’s also compatible with the Fujifilm X-S10 mirrorless digital camera.
The Link Wide transfers an image and starts the print in about 12 seconds, supports continuous printing, and is capable of generating about 100 Instax instant prints per battery charge. Two printing modes are available: Instax Rich and Instax Natural along with 30 filters, collage options, a cropping tool, the ability to add text, frames and in-app stickers.
Pricing And Availability
The Instax Link Wide smartphone printer is available in two colours, Ash White and Mocha Gray, and is available for purchase on 22 October 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of £129.99.
Instax Wide Black instant film, which has a black border instead of the usual white frame, will be available for purchase in late October 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of £9.99.

You can now take part in a Live Remote Shooting course with the Nikon School UK, where you’ll be able to take photographs alongside a Nikon School professional trainer, without leaving your home.
During a Live Remote Shooting course, customers can participate by either watching along from the photographer’s point of view, seeing the exact in-camera setup in real-time or by actively taking part in changing the camera settings themselves from their home device.
Neil Freeman, Training Manager for Nikon School UK says: “We’re really excited about introducing Live Remote Shooting to our course line-up, providing all photographers with accessibility to remote locations and the unique opportunity to see and shoot as we do in picturesque sites around the UK and beyond. We hope by offering this opportunity, it will enable photographers to experience photographing with new and recently announced lenses and cameras out in the field, as well as testing Nikon equipment they’ve been considering purchasing, without the need for lengthy or costly travel.
This is also a perfect opportunity for them to ask us specific questions and test out unique features live, allowing participants to see how these changes reflect in the final images they’ll receive at the end of the day.”
How the live remote shooting works:
A Nikon School trainer travels to a difficult to access location e.g Waterfalls and tethers the camera to a laptop.
The course will be live-streamed via a video hosting platform and photographers will be able to join virtually.
The Nikon School trainer will share their screen and give the photographer joint control over their laptop; this screen includes the same button functionality as if they were using the camera in real life.
The photographer now has the opportunity to guide the Nikon School trainer in positioning the camera into a desired frame.
With free reign over controls, the photographer has the chance to play around with settings and either direct or capture an image.
Once taken, the image will display immediately on the screen providing an opportunity to see how the settings, camera and lens they chose affected the way the final picture looks.
The photographer is welcome to request specific lenses or cameras to be used, including those not yet available in-store, and ask any advice Nikon School can offer.
Afterwards, Nikon School will send the customer their RAW images taken on the course, allowing them to post-process to their desired specification.
Live Remote Shooting courses will join the Nikon School lineup at www.nikonschool.co.uk from October 2021. For more information, take a look at the course video trailer below.
Where other camera makers have generally just replicated their old DSLR lenses for mirrorless, Canon has been consistently more innovative. Its latest telephoto zoom, the Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS STM, is a case in point. By employing a maximum aperture of f/5.6-8, it’s the smallest, lightest and most affordable 100-400mm lens yet made for mirrorless cameras of any sensor size, let alone full frame. But because mirrorless cameras don’t suffer from the same restrictions as DSLRs, it’ll still autofocus perfectly happily.
Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS STM
In essence, this lens is best seen as a budget telezoom for Canon EOS RP users, that’s a natural companion to the Canon RF 24-105mm F4.0-7.1 IS STM, and which provides extended reach compared to the 70-300mm zooms that were conventionally offered for DSLRs. At 165mm in length and 638g in weight, it’s not going to be particularly onerous to carry around all day. It includes optical stabilisation that’s rated to 5.5 stops, and employs a stepper motor for rapid, silent autofocus. A minimum focus distance of just 88cm and 0.41x maximum magnification promises to make it a useful option for tele-macro shooting.
The Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS STM extends considerably on zooming to 400mm
Like most RF lenses, alongside the zoom and focus rings there’s a third control dial on the barrel, whose function is assigned from the camera body. The lens also has physical focus and IS on/off switches, so you don’t need to dive into menus to change these settings. However it lacks many of the more advanced features seen on more conventional 100-400mm optics, with no focus limiter, IS mode switch, or weathersealing. But this can be easily forgiven considering the price, with the Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS STM set to cost just £699.99.
Canon has also announced the EOS R3 for professional sports and news photographers, and the lightweight RF 16mm F2.8 STM that’s primarily aimed at vloggers.

Apple has announced the new ninth-generation iPad, with new features as well as a new iPad Mini with a sleek design. Both tablets also see a major jump in performance over predecessors.
The latest Apple event — “California Dreaming” — was kicked off with announcements for the company’s iPad lineup with powerful performance boosts to both Apple’s standard iPad and the new iPad Mini model.
The popular standard size iPad model, which is now in its 9th generation, features a powerful A13 Bionic chip, which Apple claims packs performance all the while retaining battery life.
Starting at $330 for everyday consumers or $300 for schools, the latest iPad offers fast connectivity, compatibility with smart accessories, and boasts three times faster speeds than Chromebook and six times faster than Android tablets, according to Apple.
The new iPad features a 10.2-inch Retina display with True Tone — which allows automatic screen adjustments based on the ambient light and brightness — and a 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with Center Stage. Center Stage is a feature launched with the iPad Pro earlier this year and enhances video calls by automatically panning the camera to keep users in view and detects others who join in. It can be used in both portrait and landscape orientation.
The newly unveiled iPad Mini comes at a slightly higher $500 starting price but boasts a brand new A15 Bionic chip, with 80-percent faster performance compared to the previous generation. Together with CPU and GPU, the iPad Mini’s new Neural Engine enables a more seamless experience for apps, such as image recognition and language learning through the new Translate App.
The iPad Mini has an all-screen design with an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, 500 nits of brightness, features antireflective coating, and just like the iPad — has True Tone. Both cameras have been updated with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Focus Pixels and a larger f/1.8 aperture, and an Ultra-Wide front camera with a new 12MP sensor and a larger field of view.
iPad Mini also features a new USB-C port, same as iPad Air, which gives users flexibility when working with additional devices, for example, cameras whilst out on a location shoot. Apple claims it gives users 10-times faster data transfer speed.
Furthermore, cellular models will feature 5G, making iPad Mini an attractive tablet for users who regularly travel or work outside of the office. It is also compatible with a wide array of accessories, such as the second-generation Apple Pencil, which attaches magnetically to the side of iPad Mini for wireless charging and pairing.
Both iPad models feature a new location for Touch ID, which is now situated on the top right of the device, just like on iPad Air. Both models are also built with 100-percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure as part of the company’s dedication to reducing environmental impact.
Interested users can order both iPad models today on the Apple website, with units available from next week.

From Canon Europe:
Canon Europe today announces the launch of the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM, its widest RF lens to date. The zoom lens completes its RF trinity of kitbag-friendly, compact f/4 lenses which together offer enthusiast and professional photographers a versatile focal range covering 14-200mm. With quiet autofocus, 5.5-stop optical image stabilisation and a 14-35mm focal length incorporating aspherical and UD elements for crystal clear results, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM is the perfect lens for shooting landscape and architectural photography, as well as vlogging where content creators need a stable and broad field of view.
The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM joins Canon’s expanding range of class-leading RF lenses, built on the firm foundations of the EOS R System. When coupled with the innovative camera bodies, the full line-up of RF lenses deliver unrivalled optical performance and unlock new possibilities for photographers and videographers. Enabled by the RF Mount communication system, this lens takes advantage of combined lens and in-body image stabilisation on compatible EOS R-series cameras. It achieves a 7-stop benefit, when used with the Canon EOS R5 or EOS R6, with autofocus and control – making it a practical powerhouse for both stills and movie shooting.
Compact lens with a wide view
Taking advantage of the EOS R System’s large-diameter mount, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM achieves a powerful combination of wider coverage, high image quality – all in a compact optical system.
Weighing just 540g, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM stands alongside the compact, lightweight RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM and RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lenses to deliver a range of f/4 lenses at different optical lengths that can suit almost any photography need. As with the other lenses in this trinity it shares the same 77mm filter thread and compact form factor, which makes them convenient travel companions – users can be confident, capturing a range of perspectives whilst reducing the size and weight of the kit they carry with them.
Offering a broad focal range, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM affords photographers the flexibility to capture a multitude of different subjects, including landscape and architecture. The lens features a class-leading minimum focus distance of 0.2m and a 0.38x magnification thanks to its rear focusing system. This makes the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM particularly effective in confined spaces, enabling photographers to squeeze an entire scene into the image.
The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM employs an advanced optical design of three ultra-low dispersion and three glass moulded aspherical lens elements – one of which is both UD and aspherical – that builds on Canon’s 50 years of research and development into aspherical lenses for interchangeable lens cameras. Through extensive investment in lens design and high-precision manufacturing technology, these components feature a non-spherical curvature that gathers light at a single point to reduce aberration and create pin-sharp images, replicating the image quality of Canon’s renowned prime lenses. These elements ensure the highest resolution from edge to edge of the image, which is particularly challenging in wide-angle lenses where the presence of spherical aberrations greatly increases. Combined with Canon’s advanced proprietary Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which prevent ghosting and flare, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM achieves exceptional sharpness and contrast.
Professional, reliable performance for stills and movie
Delivering the very best qualities of the L-series, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM gives photographers and videographers consistent, precise performance. The rear focus design that enables the close focusing ability of this lens also reduces focus breathing to less than a third of the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. Its Nano USM focus motor delivers fast, smooth, and quiet autofocus; while the wide-angle, fixed f/4 aperture stays constant over the full focal length range ensuring there is no variation in shutter speed or ISO when zooming. When combined with the 5.5-stop Image Stabilizer (IS), increasing to 7-stops when used with Canon’s EOS R5 and EOS R6, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM is an essential tool for videographers using the EOS R System, providing steady footage throughout the entire video. Photographers can shoot handheld, even at very low shutter speeds.
The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM employs a control ring to give users fast, direct control of the TV, AV and ISO settings without the need to delve into menus or take their eye away from the viewfinder. Along with the full-time manual focus ring, which leverages L-series weatherproofing for a robust design, photographers and filmmakers can confidently shoot in all conditions.
Panasonic has introduced a relatively lightweight and affordable standard prime for its L mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. The Lumix S 50mm F1.8 is the second in a line of lenses that share the same dimensions, control layout and 67mm filter thread, joining the Lumix S 85mm F1.8 short telephoto that appeared towards the end of the last year. Two more lenses, a 24mm f/1.8 and a 35mm f/1.8, are under development in the same range.
The Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8 incorporates sealing against dust and moisture
Boasting a dust- and splash-resistant design for outdoor use, the lens is designed to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C. Optically it employs 9 elements in 8 groups, including one extra-low dispersion glass element and one ultra-high refractive index glass element to suppress chromatic aberration, along with three aspherical elements to maintain sharpness across the frame, even at larger apertures. The aperture diaphragm employs nine curved blades with the aim of delivering attractive blur in out-of-focus regions.
With much more svelte dimensions than the Lumix S Pro 50mm F1.4, the new lens should be a good match to the compact Lumix S5 full-frame mirrorless camera
As usual from Panasonic, the lens is designed with both stills and video shooting in mind. The firm is promising low focus breathing, along with smooth exposure adjustments during recording thanks to a micro-step aperture control. The Lumix S 50mm F1.8 is due to ship at the end of June for £429.

Cokin is a name that’s synonymous with square filters, but the firm has perhaps seen its star wane in recent years with the rise of brands such as LEE. Now it’s seeking to take a chunk of the high-end market with its new premium NX-series 100mm filter holder.
The system’s slimline design is designed to eliminate vignetting with lenses as wide as 16mm (or equivalent)
This new system is designed primarily for landscape photographers, and specifically to be used with 16-35mm wideangle zooms without vignetting, even when the holder is positioned at an angle. Key updates compared to the firm’s current EVO holder include a rear-mounted polariser that can be operated from behind the camera using a wheel on the side, and a foam gasket on the holder to prevent light leakage during long exposures.
The holder boasts a foam gasket for use with ND filters, while the rear-mounted polariser is adjusted using a wheel on the side
The system also employs aluminium frames to protect fragile neutral density (ND) and ND graduated filters from handling marks and accidental drops. This also allows the holder to be made wider, which reduces the risk of vignetting. Frames are available in a choice of three sizes: 100 x 100mm for NDs, 100 x 135mm for Cokin Nuances Extreme ND grads, and 100 x 150mm for third-party ND grads.
ND and ND grad filters are protected by aluminium frames, which are available in a choice of three sizes: 100x100mm, 100x135mm, and 100x150mm
Cokin says the NX-Series filter holder is compact and lightweight, being constructed from aluminium alloy. It also employs the same lens rings as the firm’s existing Z-size holder, which are available in sizes up to 82mm. The system is compatible not just with the firm’s own Nuances Extreme mineral glass filters, but in principle also with any 2mm-thick 100 x 100mm and 100 x 150mm filters from other brands.
The holder fits onto the lens ring via a pair of silver clips
Due to be available from late May, the NX-Series filter holder will cost £99.99. But you’ll need to add a matched polariser, which costs £79.99, along with frames for all your filters at £17.99 each. Various bundles will also be available, ranging from a Starter option with all the essential components for £219.99, up to a Professional kit that includes seven filters for £689.99.
How Cokin’s new NX-Series filter holder fits together
For full details of the NX-Series filter holder including all available components and kits, see www.nx-series.com. It’s a promising-looking design, and we’re hoping to get our hands on one for a full review in the next few months.
