This week saw Mrs T and me back on East Dartmoor around the Widecombe area, Specifically Bonehill Rocks, Chinkwell Tor and Honeybag Tor.
This was the view from our parking area.
First stop was Bonehill Rocks which from the car park didnt seem all that interesting but once up close we realised that there was more to these rocks than we first thought.
As we left Bonehill Rocks we got our first look at Chinkwell Tor sitting behind Bell Tor.
We didnt go the obvious route straight ahead instead we followed a really boring stone track in search of some ancient Hut Circles that we never found, however, there was a great view of Widecombe Church in the distance.
We ended up approaching Chinkwell Tor and Honeybag Tor from the West along a track that went between the 2. We decided to head for Honeybag as it looked the more interesting one.
As we got closer we saw that it was bigger than we had first imagined.
There were lots of interesting rock formations and some really nice views from this Tor.
From the South East side you could see Hound Tor and Haytor in the far distance.
After lunch we set off back South to Chinkwell Tor.
This Tor turned out to have some amazing rock outcrops.
Some we thought looked like petrified faces of men.
There were also spectacular views from Chinkwell Tor.
From here we set off back to the car.
On the way back we saw (sorry folks no cute Ponies again) loads of birds, most so flitty I couldnt photograph them but I did get these 2.
Thats all for this week folks, tune in next week for more Dartmoor ramblings.
